Engagement Invitation Questions

When should I host an engagement party?

Two to four months after the proposal is the sweet spot — early enough that the news still feels fresh, late enough to give time for planning. Hold the engagement party at least four to six months before the wedding so the two events don't blur together.

Can I use this for a save-the-date instead?

Yes. Many couples use InviteFree for both their engagement party invitation AND their save-the-date for the wedding (separate events with different links). The 30+ engagement templates work beautifully as save-the-dates with a few wording tweaks.

Do I need to mention the registry on the engagement invitation?

Generally, no. Engagement parties are not traditionally gift-giving occasions — that's reserved for the wedding registry. If your guests will expect to bring something, a small note like "Your presence is gift enough" is the elegant approach.

How do I handle two families with their own engagement parties?

Some couples have multiple engagement parties — one with each side of the family or in different cities. Just create a separate InviteFree event for each one. Each has its own link, host dashboard, and RSVP tracking.

Can I track who's coming to coordinate with the venue?

Yes. The host dashboard shows live RSVPs with attending counts, dietary needs, and messages. Export the guest list as a CSV to share with your venue, caterer, or wedding planner.
